Monday, October 11, 2004 Today’s Knitting News At lunch I cast on for the Alien Illusion Scarf from Stitch ‘n Bitch using Cascade 220 I purchased in Cleveland a couple of weeks ago. Although I finished 16 rows, it will take awhile to see the Alien’s head as it is a 80 row chart. Right now it looks like stripes. Both skeins of Cascade 220 are slightly tweedy in the colors of forest green (#947) and sage-lime (#9407). The yarn is 100% Peruvian Highland Wool (weight 100 grams/3.5 ounce, 220 yards, needle sizes: #7 = 5 stitches per 1” and #8 = 4 ½ stitches per 1”). I have never used this yarn before as my LYS does not carry it and I have not seen it in many other stores. It is very nice in terms of color and texture. I hear it felts well. Of course this is a Christmas gift for a guy --- the motif is highly appropriate. And after seeing Jane making an illusion scarf at CranKnitters, I knew it was a technique I wanted to try. She designed a scarf and when she laid it flat on her lap, the motif just popped right out at ya! posted by Nora | 5:04 PM
